People’s Choice Contest Entry: Better Eyes by Deb Maciorowski

Each Friday for 5 weeks we are posting the top 5 entries in our “Vision Contest.” Readers can cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award from August 29th – September 4, 2014. These week’s entry is called Better Eyes by Deb Maciorowski (to visit Deb’s blog, click here).

Better Eyes

So many people said God would stay by my side through it all?  Where was He when Emma asked me?

“Why, Daddy?”

Don’t tell me He was there when my beautiful wife of fifty years looked up at me and said with her last breath,

“This is not goodbye, Darling.”

And where was He when my home was being auctioned off?  Can you answer me that?

In the whole fifty years of my marriage to Rose I think I missed one Sunday service and that was because my daughter Emma was born an hour before Sunday’s service.  Oh, how I miss my girls!  They were everything to me and now all I have is my photo album that Rose put together when Emma was going through her chemotherapy treatments to fight the melanoma cancer that spread to her lungs.  My Emma was only thirty years old when… well you probably can guess, right?

Rose and I took it real hard.  Emma was our only child we called her our gift from God.  We had tried for so long to have a child and we actually told God we leave it in Your hands, God. We were pregnant a month later! Yeah, she was our miracle we used to tell everyone.

As I look out for the last time over my field I used to plant corn in it seems like it was so long ago when I was sitting on our porch and laughing with my two girls. Many are asking how I can still praise God in this and I say because I know I will see them again.

Reader’s Choice Voting will be open from August 29th – September 5th. The entry with the most votes will win the contest.
